Emiel design
Before joining IBM iX, Emiel worked as a freelance designer and illustrator under the name Emiel Design. Often working in an in-house freelance capacity, he supported a range of organisations with visual design from concept through final delivery.
This period formed the foundation of his design practice. His work covered a broad range of visual communication, including identities, posters, promotional materials, album covers, signage, maps, and illustration. It was a hands-on role that required both versatility and ownership across the full design process.
Working closely with small organisations and cultural clients meant being directly involved from the start of each project. Emiel translated briefs into visual directions, developed concepts, and carried the work through to final production. The pace and variety of the work helped shape a practical and adaptable approach to design.
Projects from this period included promotional design and album covers for music-related clients, visual work for venues and events, and identity and communication materials for local organisations and festivals. Across these assignments, Emiel was responsible for creating clear, distinctive design that could work across both digital and physical formats.
